The BORT system installed on O'zbekiston-series electric locomotives
Transtelesoft, part of the TMH Intelligent Systems group of companies, has completed a project to equip two O'zbekiston-series freight-and-passenger electric locomotives in the Republic of Uzbekistan with the BORT locomotive safety system. Two O'zbekiston-series locomotives, built in China, underwent extensive overhaul at CRRC facilities to a like-new condition and were fitted with the modern BORT locomotive train safety system.

The locomotive modernization project is being carried out under a contract signed between CRRC Group and Uzbekiston Temir Yullari JSC.

The two refurbished locomotives — O'zbekiston 0001 and O'zbekiston 0012 — were fully restored to like-new condition and delivered to the Uzbekistan locomotive depot.

As part of the work performed, Transtelesoft supplied BORT system kits complete with video surveillance and RLSM-10 radio stations, and provided support during installation and commissioning together with CRRC and Uzbekiston Temir Yullari JSC specialists, as well as conducting training sessions for service, operations, and data-decoding personnel.

In February 2026, static and dynamic tests of the BORT system on the O'zbekiston 0001 locomotive were successfully carried out using a methodology agreed with Uzbekiston Temir Yullari JSC and Tashkent State Transport University (TSTU). The BORT system has been successfully operating in Uzbekistan since 2022. Until now, its use had been limited to TEM2-series shunting locomotives, where it earned recognition from drivers for its high reliability and new functional capabilities.

The BORT system stands out for a number of technological advantages: LCD touchscreen displays, an intuitive interface that does not require entering numerous codes, and high-speed digital data exchange over Ethernet. It fully complies with the requirements of Customs Union Technical Regulation TR TS 001/2011. The BORT system meets the highest functional safety level, SIL 4 (under IEC 61508/EN 5012x standards). BORT is currently installed on more than 800 units of traction rolling stock across the 1520 mm gauge network.
Thanks to the BORT system's advanced capabilities, Uzbekiston Temir Yullari JSC tested for the first time the option of transmitting data to a remote server for integration with the company's project for automated generation of the driver's electronic route form (EMM).

The upgraded electric locomotives have been put into revenue service and are successfully hauling freight and passengers on the railway lines of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The commissioning of O'zbekiston-series locomotives equipped with the BORT system opens up broad prospects for its further application on the republic's mainline locomotives, helping to improve transport safety and the operational efficiency of rolling stock.
