Anniversary TEP33A 0060 Diesel Locomotive Equipped with the "BORT" System Departs on Its First Run

On February 10, the brand-new TEP33A 0060 diesel locomotive departed on its first run with a train. Its serial number reveals that it is already the sixtieth locomotive of this series produced in Kazakhstan at the Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty plant in Astana — but it is also the fortieth locomotive of this series equipped with the "BORT" locomotive traffic safety system, which has replaced the KLUB-U system on the safety post starting from TEP33A No. 0021.

The "BORT" locomotive traffic safety system is designed to prevent accidents and crashes on mainline and industrial rail transport, as well as to improve transportation efficiency. The unification of the designed "BORT" modules and their modern design have made it possible to significantly simplify the previously bulky equipment architecture, increase data exchange speed, and improve the reliability of the locomotive itself. The new component base and flexible architecture ensure rapid expansion of functional capabilities. The main indication module provides the driver with all necessary operational information on a touchscreen LCD display. A number of new functions have been implemented in the "BORT" system, significantly increasing the efficiency of locomotive operation. For example, the built-in ALSN (Automatic Locomotive Signaling) path diagnostic system allows an on-board self-check of the receiver coils for quality factor and inductance, as well as for reception of ALSN signals.

It is on the TEP33A series locomotives that an integrated solution was applied for the first time, where the driver interacts with both the safety device and the automatic train operation system on a single high-resolution touchscreen LCD monitor, which has made it possible to reduce the number of monitors in the driver's cab and make the driver's job more comfortable, while concentrating attention on a single monitor increases traffic safety.
